GRUB failed

Have you ever wondered what to do when your primary hard drive disc fails to load after having installed ubuntu and windows as a dualboot? This short how-to will at least get you  up and running so you can load windows or ubuntu for further usage and fixtures.

Grub howto

  • $ sudo grub
    • If this doesn’t work, you should try sudo apt-get install grub -> Yes
  • $ find /boot/grub/stage1
  • Now you’ll get in return something like (hdX,Y), so continue with the command:
  • $ root (hdX,Y)
  • $ setup (hdX)
  • $ quit
  • Restart your computer. Now you should see a list of Windows and Ubuntu elements in the GRUB menu.
